Here is another Covid-19 Report, Week 67 - covering June 21 through 27. Vaccination numbers, based on all individuals age 12 and up who are fully vaccinated, come out to 48% statewide. Even though parts of the border are above 70-80%, there are counties in all five regions that are coming in at 30% and lower which bring corresponding region overall number down. Here's hoping that the Gulf Coast and Central Texas can have a good week that sends them over 50%.
Also shown is the graphic that includes per capita Cases vs. % Vaccinated. Note that Lubbock County (Panhandle) per Capita Cases cluster between Vaccination Rates of 28-43% while counties representing the other four regions are between 43 and 65%. One possibility is that the total population value used to put people vaccinated to a % of the total may not be representative during periods when the semester is over and students are not on campus. Another possibility is that the Panhandle exceeded all other regions in per capita cases during earlier surges suggesting that there may be on the order of 10-15% of the population with natural immunity. I have read that such protection wears off over time. While putting data on a per capita basis is supposed to put all counties on the same basis for comparison, there are other factors such as age distribution and population density which may need to be considered for a complete understanding of the comparison.
Next week, my plan is to compare per Capita Cases in various North Texas counties (other than Collin) with similar population as Lubbock County.
