This post is for Covid-19 Week No. 59 (April 26 through May 2). For cases and hospitalizations, the state is still in a plateau mode. As discussed previously, the case levels correspond to those we saw last May, 2020 - before the June Summer Surge started building.
I did receive a reply to my question with regards to Variant numbers which are updated weekly and reported in my Vaccination Status report below. According to Dr. Van Deusen of Texas DSHS, the data is generated by a number of private and public labs all over the country and then reported back to DSHS. The specimens are typically at least four weeks old by the time results are reported. Since pending numbers continue to accumulate, there has been no progress to clear them. As shown, the Gulf Coast has more Variant-Positive samples than the rest of the state put together. This last column in the Table is a cumulative result going back to the last week in March. For the last 3 weeks, the numbers have gone down; however, we don't know whether the weekly sample size has grown, decreased, or stayed constant. Given all this uncertainty, few conclusions can be drawn except to say that Variants are present throughout the state.
I track those who are completely vaccinated. There are reports that many do not return for their second shot. The table does not give any credit for such incomplete immunization. Instead, only those who have gone through the full schedule (including those who are J&J immunized) are counted in my percentages. Presently, the State is in the mid-30's having increased last week's value by 3.5%. The regional data varies from the Panhandle's 30.9% to the Border's 44%. Based on these results, we are still on track to complete the job by the end of August.
