Week 50's COVID-19 Report

Week 50:

Today represents my 50th week tracking Covid-19 Data in Texas. It has been awhile, since Dashboards have improved considerably since I started posting. However, in light of a total lifting of restrictions in two days (this post is dated 3/8/21), I wanted to make a few points.

Below, I report the 7-Day Average for Covid-19 Hospitalizations for each region beginning with the first week in June. As shown, both Summer and Winter surges are characterized by a rapid rise followed by a peak and tail. The tail is not as sharp as the rise and we never were able to return to pre-Summer numbers before end-of-year Holiday season for our 3rd run-up in cases and fatalities. In the coming weeks, our tail is similarly poised to take off once more - this time beginning that corresponds more to levels we saw in early November, roughly 3-times more the hospitalizations (and corresponding fatalities) we saw back in June

Each day, I will highlight a different part of the state - this approach distinguishes my work from others you may follow where either overall results for the state or county results are tracked. Below I go into more detail for the Gulf Coast which includes counties from the Louisiana border all the way south to Cameron County along the U.S/Mexico border.
